Ce projet vise à renforcer la capacité des universités publiques à mener des recherches multidisciplinaires de haute qualité dans ce domaine. Il créera un laboratoire de recherche pour l'IAPD Afrique qui s'engagera dans la recherche multidisciplinaire, l'enseignement et l'étude de l'IA responsable pour le développement. Plus précisément, le laboratoire cherchera à renforcer les capacités de recherche et d'enseignement en matière d'IA responsable en Afrique anglophone par l'intermédiaire du mentorat, du renforcement des communautés et de la distribution équitable de matériel d'enseignement et de formation de haute qualité. Il permettra de mieux comprendre comment faire progresser les méthodologies de recherche et les capacités de formation responsables, pluridisciplinaires et tenant compte du genre. Il examinera également comment soutenir le déploiement et la commercialisation de l'IA, du monde universitaire au secteur privé. Ce projet fait partie du programme IAPD Afrique dont l'objectif est d'améliorer la qualité de vie de tous en Afrique et au-delà en s'associant aux communautés scientifiques et politiques du continent pour tirer parti de l'IA grâce à une recherche de haute qualité, une innovation responsable et le renforcement des talents. Ce projet fait partie du pilier de développement des talents du programme IAPD Afrique et constitue une composante clé de la stratégie de conception d'un écosystème d'IAPD Afrique dynamique en Afrique subsaharienne. To realize the potential of Artificial Intelligence for Development in Africa (AI4D), local, relevant, and multidisciplinary research is essential to deepen our understanding of responsible artificial intelligence (AI) in the African context. This project seeks to strengthen the capacity of public universities to conduct high-quality, multidisciplinary research in this field. It will establish an AI4D research laboratory that engages in multidisciplinary research, teaching, and scholarship on responsible AI for development. Specifically, the lab will seek to strengthen research and teaching capacity in responsible AI across Anglophone Africa through mentorship, community building, and equitable distribution of high-quality teaching and training materials. It will increase understanding of how to advance responsible, multidisciplinary, and gender-inclusive research methodologies and training capacity. It will also explore how to support AI deployment and commercialization from academia to the private sector. This project is part of the AI4D in Africa program dedicated to improving the quality of life for all, in Africa and beyond, by partnering with the continent’s science and policy communities to leverage AI through high-quality research, responsible innovation, and talent strengthening. This project is part of the “building talent” pillar of the AI4D Africa program and constitutes a key component of the strategy to build a vibrant AI4D ecosystem in sub-Saharan Africa.
