NL-KVK-27378529-PSI12AM21 Netherlands Enterprise Agency Armenia consumes about 24,000 tons of pork annually. The majority of this meat is imported frozen. There are only a few pig farms in Armenia. These farms are mostly obsolete, with closed concrete floors, without ventilation. Emissions of ammoniac are not dealt with properly and the wet fraction of manure is often released into the environment.The partners VDL Agrotech B.V. and Vasanavi LLC plan to upgrade two barns of on old sovchoz style farm, 20 km outside of Yerevan. These barns will be completely renovated and equipped with modern farm management systems. Furthermore, the farm will get a biogas production system which will be used to generate electricity. The system will generate 60% of the farm's energy demand initially. If the farm grows, the biogas production will be enough to meet the entire energy demand of the farm.In addition, 120 sows will be imported from the Netherlands in order to obtain top quality genetic material in Armenia.
