However, the country is largely dependent on onion imports while local production, mostly by smallholders, is faced with various challenges including poor agricultural practices, soil degradation and climate change.Implemented by a cluster of Dutch and Senegalese stakeholders, this project aims to contribute to the development of a sustainable, climate-resistant onion value chain in Kayar region, one the country's key onion cultivation areas.This should help to strengthen the market position of these smallholders and increase the self-sufficiency of Senegal in onion production.
