  <description type="1">
   <narrative xml:lang="EN">This OPA is part of the Sida2GROW project, and contributes to the overall GROW Campaign.

Human suffering has no place in our food.But all too often, the workers behind our food suffer from a lack of dignity at work: they earn poverty wages, work in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, and don#t have the right to demand better conditions for fear of losing their jobs. In too many places, women workers are paid less than men for the same work and are denied the same basic human and legal rights. This goesbeyond just a few problematic food products or a few troublesome locations: it is widespread across our global food system.

In BTBP Spike 2 we will continue to push for human rights due diligence from supermarkets, enforced by governments. The nationalcontexts we are bringing to thespotlight are tea workers in India and fruit orchard workers in Brazil. Oxfam teams in countries including the Netherlands, Great Britain, United States and Germany will leverage stories of workers to pressure companies andgovernments to take action to ensure dignified work and fair wages. This OPA will help creating pPublic pressure in the form of mobilizing consumers and citizens, which is an essential part of the theory of change. This grant will support background research on the cases from India and Brazil.</narrative>

Oxfam works on six goals that support the shared vision of a just world without poverty: help people claim their right to a better life; champion equal rights for women; saving lives, now and in the future; safeguard global food supplies; help people claim a fairer share of natural resources; and increase money for basic services. For 70 years, Oxfam has been running emergency responses, development projects and campaigning at the grass roots level to tackle poverty.</narrative>
