       "": "Le blé est la principale culture vivrière du Maroc; cependant, la productivité du blé est faible, avec un rendement moyen de moins de deux tonnes par hectare. Le Maroc couvre en moyenne 60 % de ses besoins en blé et dépend des importations, en particulier lors des années sèches. L’invasion de l’Ukraine par la Russie a eu des répercussions directes sur les prix du blé au Maroc, et la situation s’aggrave avec l’apparition de conditions climatiques extrêmes, principalement des vagues de chaleur ou de sécheresse. Le renouvellement et l’amélioration des variétés de blé stagnent depuis plus de 20 ans, et le système semencier actuel a une capacité limitée à produire, multiplier et distribuer suffisamment de semences de qualité afin de répondre à la demande des agricultrices et agriculteurs. \n\nLe projet évaluera les systèmes semenciers actuels et travaillera avec des organisations publiques, privées et communautaires afin de concevoir, mettre à l’essai et mettre en place des interventions plus efficaces et tenant compte de l’égalité des genres en vue de l’améliorer, y compris la participation des femmes à la multiplication des semences certifiées. Six plateformes d’innovation seront mises en place dans les différentes zones agroécologiques afin de faciliter la participation des parties prenantes nécessaires afin de piloter et démontrer les effets de l’adoption de variétés améliorées et de pratiques de gestion des cultures sur la productivité, les revenus et la résilience face aux changements climatiques. Il est prévu que 5 000 agricultrices et agriculteurs adoptent des variétés de blé améliorées et des pratiques agronomiques (y compris l’agriculture de conservation et l’irrigation complémentaire informée par des capteurs numériques et l’imagerie satellite), contribuant ainsi à accroître la productivité des systèmes de production à base de blé et leur résilience face aux changements climatiques. \n\nCe dernier est soutenu par le Fonds d’accélération de la recherche sur le blé, un partenariat de cofinancement entre le CRDI et Agriculture et Agroalimentaire Canada.",

       "": "Wheat is Morocco's primary staple food crop; however, wheat productivity is low, with an average yield of less than two tons per hectare. Morocco meets an average of 60% of its wheat needs and relies on imports, particularly in dry years. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has directly impacted Morocco’s wheat prices, and the situation worsens with the occurrence of extreme weather conditions, mainly heat waves and/or drought. Renewal and improvement of wheat varieties have remained stagnant for more than 20 years, and the current seed system has limited capacity to produce, multiply and distribute enough quality seeds to meet farmers’ demands. \n\nThis project will assess the existing seed system and work with public, private and community organizations to design, test and establish more efficient and gender-responsive interventions to upgrade it, including women's participation in certified seed multiplication. Six innovation platforms will be established in two different agroecological zones to facilitate stakeholders' participation in piloting and demonstrating the impacts of improved varieties and crop management practices on productivity, income and climate resilience. It is expected that 5,000 men and women farmers will be adopting improved wheat varieties and agronomic practices (including conservation agriculture and supplemental irrigation informed by digital sensors and satellite imagery), thus contributing to increasing the productivity of wheat-based production systems and their resilience to climate change. \n\nThis project is supported through the Wheat Research Accelerator Fund initiative, which is a co-funding partnership between IDRC and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.",
