Note: This project has been cancelled, due to the war situation in Yemen.In Yemen, the annual consumption of poultry meat is high at approximately 13.5 kg per capita. Approximately half of the consumption is produced locally and half is imported. The locally produced poultry is slaughtered under unhygienic conditions at markets, the imported meat is sold in frozen condition.The presented project is aiming at establishing a modern slaughterhouse for broilers (meat chicken) and market the meat via supermarkets, specialised retail outlets and restaurants. It will primarily compete with imported meat which is not halal. The slaughterhouse will be located in the Sana'a region.The applicant is Shuman Poultry Production and Marketing S.A.L. from Lebanon. The local partner is Nakhlan Poultry Company, it operates broiler parent stock farms and operates a hatchery to supply broiler farms in Yemen with day old chicks. It also operates an animal feed company and supplies feed and veterinary drugs to the customers.The partners will set up a joint venture.There is no poultry slaughterhouse in Yemen operating at the moment so the activity is new and the project will make high quality poultry meat available to Yemeni consumers. The project will create a good market channel for broiler farmers, it will give them a secure customer for the chicken and a steady income not influenced by market price fluctuations.
