Oxfam Novib registered in Tunisia in the end of 2011 and opened an office here early 2012. Oxfam#s work in the Maghreb is a multi country program comprising Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Libya. It supports local projects, is involved in lobby-work to take into account the interests of the poorest people, and campaigns to involve citizens in our work. It#s focus in the Maghreb is on social and political participation, gender justice and supporting sustainable livelihoods work. Four Oxfam affiliates work in the Maghreb:Oxfam Novib (The Netherlands), Intermon Oxfam (Spain), Oxfam Italy and Oxfam in Belgium. Oxfam has been working in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for over five decades and over the past four decades promoting gender equality and supporting women#sright to participate and be represented in governance and decision-making structures and processes.

In Tunisia, this project is part of Oxfam’s broader country strategies and programs related to governance and economic justice. Themonitoring methodology will ensure the sustainability of the watch function beyond the scope of the project. It will also serve to leverage work advocating for inequality reductionin Tunisia. It will cooperatewith other CSOsto contribute tothe monitoring and enlarge the membership of the watch. Further, Oxfam will continue working with partners on influencing IFI policies and conditionalities, fiscal policies,and advancing regional development and investment in public services. Oxfam will workwith partners to ensure functional, institutional and financial sustainability of the project and partner organization. In addition, efforts will be madeto ensure a sustainable institutional cooperation between partners, particularly through partnering media and CSOs topopularize and visualize the impact of mainstream policies and show case the alternatives.
