DESCRIPTION
Zimbabwe has been experiencing increased vulnerability to climate and weather-related hazards. The project is designed to strengthen community resilience to climate change shocks and stressors. Climate change has intensified the occurrence and severity of climate-related disasters, primarily impacting vulnerable populations in developing nations. This phenomenon is severely undermining food security and disrupting livelihood activities for many rural communities in Zimbabwe. Mwenezi district is mostly affected by droughts and climate change has worsened the situation with an anticipated 30% increase in droughts by 2030[1]. 6 million people in rural areas were projected to be food insecure, with Mwenezi district projected to experience a cereal insecurity of 54% (ZIMVAC, 2024). This project is thus designed to strengthen community adaptation to climate change through comprehensive climate change adaptation initiatives anchored on the sustainable livelihoods framework which utilizes the vulnerability context, community assets, and livelihood strategies for sustainable livelihood outcomes.
