General
Afghanistan Rights Monitor (ARM) is a monitoring project designed to support informed policy and action on fundamental Civic, Social, and Economic rights protection and promotion through applied research, capacity development, and constructive advocacy. ARM is based on an exhaustive evaluation of fundamental rights standards, adapted to Afghanistan. It combines a standardized research and training methodology to engage actors from civil society and government on how best to protect and promote fundamental rights of Afghans. Another key component of ARM is the professional training on policy analysis, delivered by APPRO in Kabul and certified by Gent University in Belgium. This training course is available to eligible candidates from civil society and government institutions.
Objectives
Afghanistan Rights Monitor (ARM) will be implemented from October 2015 till April 2018 by Afghanistan Public Policy Research Organization (APPRO) with funding from the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Kabul to meet the following objectives: 1. Regular monitoring on a comprehensive set of indicators covering civil, economic, social, cultural and political rights through a standardized methodology 2. Informed, pragmatic, and constructive advocacy messaging based on empirical evidence and delivered by civil society actors, and 3. Informed and improved policy and action on human rights protection through sensitization and enhancement of government capacity to formulate needs-based policies to create greater synergy between Afghan society and its governmental representatives and authorities.
