Achwa 2 will be the first HPP in Northern Uganda, an area that succumbed to rebel activity and has been underserved. The project involves the construction and operation of a 42MW run-of-the-river hydro power plant (Achwa 2 HPP) located on the banks of the Achwa River in the districts of Pader, Kitgum and Gulu in Uganda. A 14km access road, 5km of service roads and interconnection facilities to the grid substation will be built as part of the project scope. The Achwa 2 power plant will be interconnected via a 180 km transmission line to the Lira substation, which will be built by Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) outside the scope of the project. Developing hydro power potential will provide Uganda with relatively cheaper, sustainable energy to drive economic growth and development.
Le projet d’Achwa 2 est la première centrale hydroélectrique construite dans le nord de l’Ouganda, une région qui a succombé à l’activité des rebelles et a été mal desservie. Le projet porte sur la construction et l’exploitation d’une centrale hydroélectrique au fil de l’eau de 42 MW (centrale d’Achwa 2), située sur les rives du fleuve Achwa dans les districts de Pader, Kitgum et Gulu en Ouganda. Une route d’accès de 14 km, des voies de service de 5 km et des installations d’interconnexion au poste du réseau seront construites dans le cadre du projet. La centrale d’Achwa 2 sera interconnectée via une ligne de transport de 180 km au poste de Lira qui sera construit par Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) en dehors du cadre du projet. Le développement du potentiel hydroélectrique fournira à l’Ouganda une énergie durable et relativement moins coûteuse pour stimuler la croissance économique et le développement.

This project will benefit mainly Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL), the Government and the people of Uganda.
Objectives
Le projet a pour objectif de répondre à la demande croissante d’électricité en Ouganda, la nécessité de réduire le coût de l’électricité produite, et le besoin de fournir de l’énergie propre. Le projet offrira une source d’énergie abordable, à faible coût et respectueuse de l’environnement, qui remédiera aux pénuries d’électricité prévues et appuiera par conséquent la croissance économique ainsi que le développement social en Ouganda.
The project aims to meet the growing demand for electricity in Uganda, the need to reduce the cost of electricity produced, and the need to provide clean energy. The Project will provide affordable, low cost, environmentally friendly, which will address expected power shortfalls and thereby support economic growth as well as social development in Uganda.
