Le Projet d’Appui au Centre d’Excellence sous régional en Sciences de la Nutrition (PA-EANSI) basé à Bujumbura, profitera à l’ensemble de région de la communauté est-africaine. Ce projet permettra de renforcer la sécurité nutritionnelle, contribuer au développement du capital humain et à la croissance économique du Burundi en particulier, et dans la région de la communauté est-africaine en général à travers l’amélioration de l’accès à une formation de haut niveau et une recherche de qualité en sciences de la nutrition. Sa mise en œuvre repose sur trois composantes à savoir: (i) l’appui institutionnel et pédagogique, (ii) l’appui au développement des infrastructures et (iii) la gestion de projet. Le projet sera exécuté sur une période de cinq (5) ans pour un coût total estimé à 6,791 millions d’UC. Les principales réalisations attendues sont: la formation en master en sciences de la nutrition de 150 étudiants, la formation en doctorat de 10 étudiants, des formations continues en nutrition dans les secteurs de la santé et l’agriculture. Les étudiants seront formés dans les cinq filières suivantes: (i) Nutrition Clinique, (ii) Nutrition et Santé Publique; (iii) Technologie Agroalimentaire, (iv) Qualité des Aliments, et (v) Sécurité Alimentaire et Changement climatique.

The Project to Support the East African Nutritional Sciences Institute (PA-EANSI) based in Bujumbura will benefit the entire region of the East African Community. The project will enhance nutrition security, contribute to the development of human capital and economic growth in Burundi in particular, and in the East African Community region in general, by improving access to high-level training and quality research in nutritional sciences. Its implementation builds on three components: (i) institutional and pedagogical support; (ii) support for infrastructure development; and (iii) project management. The project will be implemented over a period of five (5) years and will cost UA 6.791 million. The main expected outputs are: master's degree training in nutritional sciences for 150 students, doctoral training for 10 students and continuing education in nutrition inthe health and agriculture sectors. Students will be trained in the following areas: (i) clinical nutrition; (ii) nutrition and public health; (iii) agri-food technology; (iv) food quality; and (v) food security and climate change.

Le projet PA-EANSI vise l’amélioration des compétences en nutrition au niveau stratégique. Ce projet contribuera en effet à renforcer la sécurité nutritionnelle par le biais du renforcement des capacités nécessaires à la transformation des aliments et le respect des normes de qualité ainsi que le développement du capital humain à travers le renforcement des capacités pour une meilleure prise en charge des cas de malnutrition, qui présente un coût économique et social élevé au Burundi.

The PA-EANSI project aims to improve nutrition skills at the strategic level. It will help to strengthen nutrition security through capacity building for food processing and compliance with quality standards, as well as human capital development through capacity building for better management of malnutrition, which has a high economic and social cost in Burundi.

Les bénéficiaires globaux du projet sont tout d’abord la population du Burundi estimée à environ 11 millions d’habitants, dont 50,22% de femmes et environ 29% d’enfants de moins de cinq ans qui sont les groupes les plus vulnérables. Les bénéficiaires directs sont les enseignants de la Faculté d’agronomie et de Bio-ingénierie (FABI) et de la Faculté de médecine (70), les futurs étudiants de l’EANSI en formation initiale ou continue (395 d’ici la fin du projet), soit un total de 465 bénéficiaires directs, dont au moins 130 seront des femmes. Les professionnels de la santé et de l’agriculture seront des cibles particulièrement visées pour les formations en master et doctorat. Pour illustration, le centre contribuera, d’ici 2047, à la formation d’un nombre minimum de 1200 nouveaux diplômés de niveau Master en nutrition et 150 PhD, sans comptabiliser les bénéficiaires des formations continues/qualifiantes. Le projet prendra en compte les besoins des femmes, hommes, jeunes, de toutes les classes d’âge et catégories sociales dans toutes leurs composantes. Les populations vulnérables du projet seront aussi prises en compte par rapport à l’accès aux formations à travers les bourses d’excellence combinées aussi au statut de vulnérabilité des candidats.

The overall beneficiaries of the project are primarily Burundi's population estimated at about 11 million, of which 50.22% are women and about 29% are children under five, who are the most vulnerable groups. The direct beneficiaries are Faculty of Agronomy and Bioengineering (FABI) and the teaching staff of the Faculty of the Medicine (70), future EANSI students undergoing initial or continuing training (395 by the end of the project), which adds up to a total of 465 direct beneficiaries, at least 130 of whom will be women. Health and agricultural professionals will be specifically targeted by the Master's and PhD training programmes. By 2047, the Centre is expected to contribute to the training of at least of 1,200 new Master's and 150 new PhD graduates in nutrition, not leaving out the beneficiaries of continuing/skills training. The project will take into account the needs of women, men and young people of all age brackets and social categories, with no exception. The vulnerable segments of the project area population will also be taken into account in terms of access to training through excellence scholarships combined with the candidates’ vulnerability status.
