XM-DAC-47066-PX.0330 International Organization for Migration (IOM) The main objective of this project is to contribute to strengthening the capacities of the Government of Nicaragua to guarantee protection to girls, boys, migrant women, and vulnerable migrants. As such, this initiative will represent a key effort to support institutional capacities in the field of protection, care and prevention of human trafficking. This effort will be realised particularly through setting up a collaborative capacity development workstream with the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería (DGME - Directorate-General for Migration and Foreigners). As a result of the initiative, immigration officers will have increased knowledge, understanding and awareness on protection. At the same time, the project will ensure that appropriate tools are at disposal to support this process. To this end, the initiative envisions the implementation of training and awareness-raising programmes, that will cover topics such as national migration law; international migration law and key legal tools (conventions, international treaties); key patterns in current migration trends, with a focus on protection needs and human rights. The project seeks to integrate this learning component with an upgrade of the operational capacities of the National School for Migration of the DGME, including the development of teaching and learning material, which shall be fully institutionalised by the authorities, for a sustainable and ’owned’ training curriculum. Ultimately, for a successful achievement of the project’s objective, the IOM will work in cooperation with the institutions mandated to govern migration in Nicaragua, ensuring participation and ownership, and thus a sustainable positive impact.
