XM-DAC-3-1-286022-34939 Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark The project’s overall objective is “to improve the quality of life, health and livelihoods of people as well as the environment in Wakiso West and Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) by securing access to water and sanitation, which is recognised as a human right”. Wakiso West - an area to the south and south-west of GKMA - sees strong population growth the coming years, with demands for water and sanitation services on a steep rise, and its infrastructure insufficient to meet even current levels of demand. The project helps address these needs by construction of a 62,500 m3/day Water Treatment Plant (WTP), water intake from Lake Victoria, installation of the main and secondary system of water pipes, and construction of a 400 m3/day Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant. It also includes a 2.95 MW capacity Solar energy-plant to cover parts of the electricity needs of the WTP, STP, and pumping stations. The total project budget is DKK 1362 million, and DSIF provides a mixed credit in an amount of DKK 1072 million with 50% concessionality. The appropriation on the Development Assistance Budget is DKK 669 million, including budget margin.
