41120-134708 UN-Habitat The main project goal is to reduce and prevent conflicts based on natural resources and transhumance in Bafata and Gabu regions. In particular, the project intends to respond to increasing conflicts on land between farmers and herders and to marginalization of transhumant herders, which have become more prevalent due to climate change effects. The project will help to bring the key stakeholders to a common understanding of the source of their conflicts and the possible solutions that would work for the different groups (farmers, agro-pastoralists and pastoralists) in cooperation with local authorities. It will also help to improve the mobile pastoralist youth, women and girls’ access to health and education services to reduce their marginalization and a major cause of grievance. Finally, for better and more sustainable management of the problem, the project will work with the authorities to develop information systems on transhumance, water and pasture resources. The project entails two main elements – one soft component of improved dialogue between different parties involved in transhumance; the other on providing the necessary services and structures for conflict resolution. • Outcome 1: Improved common understanding between pastoralists and farmers around the natural resources management system to prevent and mitigate conflict by sharing resources (land and water) • Outcome 2: Peaceful resolution of conflict between pastoralists, agro pastoralists and farmers at the local, national and regional level and improved access to basic services for mobile pastoralists UN-Habitat will work on these two components, with a focus on the following Outputs: • Output 1.3 Data are collected and centralized on identification of conflict zones and security incidents linked to pastoralism and transhumance through development of information systems. • Output 2.2 Construction or rehabilitation of basic infrastructure related to land and water is carried out according to the results of the SDF (Output 1.3) to support transhumance activities.
