Le Centre International de Développement des Engrais (IFDC), en partenariat avec ICRISAT, SASAKAWA et KIT, propose ce programme régional de Développement Intégré du Secteur des Semences (ISSD-Sahel) pour le Mali et le Niger. Ce programme vise à accélérer le développement du marché des semences de qualité et à établir fermement la production et la commercialisation de semences par les organisations de producteurs et le secteur semencier privé au Mali et au Niger. Au cours de la période 2021 à 2024, le projet envisage assurer la disponibilité et l'utilisation de semences de qualité grâce à l'é tablissement d'un secteur semencier commercialement viable et autonome, soutenu par des services semenciers interconnectés et orientés vers les besoins des producteurs et des consommateurs. En se basant sur les expériences éprouvées dans certains pays d’Afrique (Éthiopie, Uganda et Burundi) ISSD Sahel contribuera à accroître la sécurité alimentaire et nutritionnelle et les revenus des petits exploitants au Mali et au Niger. Il vise la promotion à grande échelle des semences de qualité utilisées pour faire croître le marché vers un secteur agricole commercial stable et autosuffisant. ISSD Sahel se concentre sur le développement des nouveaux producteurs de semences commerciales, la professionnalisation des commerçants des semences et développera durablement l'esprit d'entreprise dans le secteur des semences, tout en envisageant la création d'emploi pour les jeunes et les femmes. Par ailleurs, il offrira la possibilité de mobiliser l'expertise du secteur privé semencier néerlandais et international pour le ren forcement des capacités humaines locales et l'élargissement de leurs marchés.
