Built on the IOM Italy experience on cultural mediation in support to law enforcement officials, the proposed project is designed as an emergency measure to bridge the financial gap with the new 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework, as a support to the Italian Border Police authorities at selected sea and land borders through a skilled pool of 50 cultural mediators, specialized in identification and fingerprinting procedures, disembarkation procedures, EU asylum and human rights law and standards. IOM will deploy this specialized team of mediators, already part of the SAAS project ended on 30 June 2022, to ensure that the authorities continue to have access to a high standard of specialized personnel in the season of highest migratory pressure for the country.
