Central and north coastal areas of Peru have been affected by extreme rainfall and Cyclone Yaku since March 2023. As of 18 April, the floods have directly affected about 460,000 people, most of them in Lambayeque, Piura and Lima regions. Authorities have declared a state of emergency in 1,056 districts (54 per cent of all districts in the country). Through this project, IOM is providing lifesaving assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the extreme rainfall and Cyclone Yaku in support to the government’s relief efforts. The focus is on the most affected regions of Lambayeque, Piura, Tumbes and Lima, with three key workstreams: (1) strengthening Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) response; (2) providing shelter and non-food item (NFI) assistance; and (3) providing multi-purpose cash (MPC) assistance.
