The project development objective is to improve the quality of life of the people living along the project road as well as contribute to the development of the international transit traffic potential of the country. The project will eliminate the current road efficiency constraints, which are caused by the poor design and condition of the road. Eventually, average travel time as well as vehicle operating costs will decrease by one third. To reach the above impact and objective, the project will reconstruct and upgrade 29.6 km of road, pave additional 10 km of connecting roads and install Weigh in Motion (WIM) systems for dynamic weight and dimension control.Key development results expected from the project include: (i) (Outcome level – expected to be achieved by 2029) (i) People with improved access to transportation services increased by 80,000 (Core Sector Indicator – CSI), (ii) Travel time on the rehabilitated road section reduced by 33% to 24 min, (iii) Severe or fatal accidents reduced by 40% to 3 on the road section, (iv) Annual Average Daily Traffic accommodated increased, (v) Average speed on the road increased by 60% towards 80 km/h, (vi) Riding quality (Road roughness -IRI) improved to 2.0 and (vii) 100 new jobs created through improved economic activity (CSI).
