Les pays d’Afrique centrale entendent diversifier leurs économies, en passant d’une économie basée sur l’exploitation des ressources naturelles vers une économie axé davantage sur la Science la technologie et l’innovation. A cet effet, le Bureau régional de Yaoundé va s'attacher à soutenir l’élaboration de politiques nationales STI. Il va également s’employer à promouvoir la mise en œuvre de la Recommandation de l'UNESCO sur la science ouverte.
