Africa's persistent job crisis calls for more effective employment policies, including training programs and support for job searches. This project will address the crisis through recommendations that will improve employment policies in francophone Africa. Youth employment initiatives in Africa Over the last two decades, African governments established employment agencies to help youth integrate into the labour market. For example, Senegal launched the National Agency for Youth Employment to help 113,000 young people find jobs by 2017. However, the effectiveness of these agencies is limited. Recommendations to improve job outlooks This project will generate actionable recommendations for policymakers and employment agency managers. It will also provide practical suggestions to help the business community take advantage of employment agencies when filling vacancies. The project team will bring together local experts and representatives of national employment agencies in five francophone countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including Cameroon, Chad, Cote d'Ivoire, Republic of Congo, and Senegal. It will aim to strengthen the agencies by providing evidence on what works and what does not work to address Africa's employment problem.

La crise de l'emploi persistante en Afrique exige des politiques d'emploi plus efficaces, y compris des programmes de formation et un soutien à la recherche d'emploi. Ce projet abordera la crise au moyen de recommandations visant à améliorer les politiques d'emploi en Afrique francophone. Initiatives d'emploi des jeunes en Afrique Au cours des vingt dernières années, des gouvernements africains ont mis sur pied des bureaux de placement afin d'aider les jeunes à intégrer le marché du travail. Par exemple, le Sénégal a lancé l'Agence nationale pour la promotion de l'emploi des jeunes dans le but d'aider 113 000 jeunes à trouver un emploi d'ici 2017. Cependant, l'efficacité de ces organismes est limitée. Recommandations visant à améliorer les perspectives d'emploi Le projet donnera lieu à la formulation de recommandations concrètes à l'intention des responsables des politiques et des gestionnaires des bureaux de placement. Il fournira également des suggestions pratiques pour aider les entreprises à faire appel à ces bureaux pour doter leurs postes vacants. L'équipe du projet rassemblera des experts locaux et des représentants de bureaux nationaux de placement dans cinq pays francophones de l'Afrique subsaharienne, à savoir le Cameroun, le Tchad, la Cote d'Ivoire, la République du Congo et le Sénégal. Elle tentera de renforcer les bureaux en leur fournissant des données probantes sur ce qui contribue, ou non, à lutter contre le problème du chômage en Afrique.
