The Pakistan Regional Economic Integration Activity (PREIA) will improve Pakistan's trade and transit flows with regional partners, enhance cross-border efficiency, increase export earnings, and attract business and investment to Pakistan. PREIA's interventions leverage 'trade and transit' to reduce the costs and obstacles to free and open trade, supporting the Administration's goal of peace and security in the region. FY 2021 resources will provide technical assistance to improve Pakistan's adherence with international trade agreements, improve investor confidence, lower trade restrictions, and grow markets. These investments will support trade policies, laws, and regulations reflective of the needs of Pakistan's export industries, thus promoting U.S. economic interests and ensuring opportunities for U.S. businesses. PREIA will develop a digital Port Community System at Karachi Port to help optimize, manage, and automate logistics-efficient processes through a single submission of data, which will connect transport and logistics chains, improve transparency and efficiency of trade processes. PREIA will provide assistance to liberalize Pakistan's trade regime; increase transparency and efficiency of transit facilitation processes; reduce logistical challenges to increase financial viability of alternate transit route; and increase engagement with regional trading partners to help address longer-term geopolitical challenges. This activity promotes regional stability and offers an alternative to predatory development and financial models. Accordingly, $1,200,000 in FY 2021 funding contributes to meeting an earmark of $7,500,000 for such purposes. Additionally, $400,000 of FY 2021 funding from this IM contributes to meeting the gender hard earmark of $10 million.
