On March 16 1988 civilians from the city of Halabja were bombarded with mustard gas and the deadly nerve agent sarin by Iraqi fighter jets of Saddam Hussein's horrific regime. One of the most infamous events of the Anfal Genocide, the effects this chemical attack have had lasting repercussions for survivors and their families. Nearly 35 years later thousands of survivors suffer from cancer, miscarriages (miscarriages in Halabja still outnumber live births), birth abnormalities and PTSD.
