DESCRIPTION
The project will support woman cooperatives in Thiaroye, Kayar and Mbalin in the transformation of the fish smoking business. The supported woman cooperatives will improve their access to fresh fish, adopt large scale Nopale fish smoking kilns and development business opportunities. Over time, these changes will lead to a stronger participation of the woman cooperatives in the economic development of the fish processing sector. The project supports women’s cooperatives in Thiaroye, Kayar, and Mbalin to transform the fish-smoking business by promoting the adoption of environmentally friendly practices. Specifically, the project will facilitate the use of large-scale Nopale fish-smoking kilns, which significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional ovens. This initiative aligns with climate change mitigation efforts by lowering the carbon footprint of fish processing activities. The project enhances the resilience of women’s cooperatives by improving their access to fresh fish and creating diversified business opportunities in fish processing. These measures strengthen the economic sustainability of the cooperatives, enabling them to adapt to potential climate-related disruptions in the supply chain and maintain their participation in the economic development of the sector.
