General
This project aims to influence both public and corporate policies in the areas of value distribution, Decent Work and Natural Resources Management. To influence public policies we work in coalition with other Civil Society Organisations, while to influence corporate policies we work through Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives (MSIs). Policies we aim to influence are: Corporate Responsible Purchasing Practises that ensure a balanced supplier-buyer relationship and that can be instrumental in the realisation of living wages for textiles sector workers. Corporate policies on improving livelihoods of cotton farmers - through our participation in the Better Cotton Initiative and the Organic Cotton Accelerator, we aim to put on the agenda of the cotton sector, the topic of living income for cotton farmers. Through our engagement in multiple MSIs (BCI, OCA, SLCP, SAC, Dutch Agreement on Sustainable Garments and Textile/NGA), we will ensure that the topic of Decent Work remains high on the agenda of both the cotton and textiles sectors, and ultimately is reflected in corporate policies. We are advocating for the EU Strategy for Sustainable Textiles to cover social / labour rights topics (incl. Freedom of Association, Decent Work, Living Wage and Income) as well as environmental topics (incl. pesticides and water use of cotton production, and chemical, water and energy use in wet processing of textiles) and commercial practices (as Responsible Purchasing Practices and equal partnership).
