Implementing Private Sector in Aid Recipient Country
General
Ethiopia’s fruit and vegetables sector has great potential for both much-needed local private sector development (jobs, income) and for the country’s food security. Due to various complex and interrelated challenges, however, the potential of the sector strikingly contrasts with its performance. This calls for a longer-term comprehensive effort and seems to make it particularly well-suited for applying a systems approach.Ethiopia is one of the countries selected for the implementation of the Programmatic Approach to Developing Economic Opportunities (PADEO).PADEO aims to achieve sustainable impact for private sector development (SDG 8) through contributing to positive systems changes by using a systems approach. This project is one of the key steps in shaping the implementation of PADEO towards agrologistics for fruit & vegetables as the ‘system’ selected for Ethiopia. It aims to enhance the systemic understanding of agrologistics for the fruit & vegetables sector in Ethiopia and to provide guidance on how to contribute to positive changes to this system.
