General
Renewed fighting and violence since early December 25 have exacerbated the humanitarian situation in DRC. Even prior to the currentescalation, the country was facing a severe humanitarian crisis: 27.7 million ppl were food insecure, with eastern provinces more affected. Nationwide outbreaks included more than 10k cholera cases, over 8,900 Mpox cases, <(>&<)> 64 Ebola cases reported in 2025 (WHO). According to UN Flash Updates (12–19 December 2025), renewed fighting has resulted in displacement of over 500,000 people across South Kivu. RNA <(>&<)> inter-agency missions conducted indicate that more than 95% of IDPs arrived without food stocks. Access to safe drinking water is critically limited, forcing families to rely on untreated river or canal water. Oxfam’s RNA identified WASH, FSL, Health, <(>&<)> Protection as first-priority needs in Uvira during current phase of crisis. While some actors are providing essential health <(>&<)> water services in selected locations, overall coverage remains insufficient, with critical gaps in WASH and Food security. To address these gaps, Oxfam <(>&<)> AFEDEM will conduct an integrated WASH <(>&<)> FSL response in Uvira, with gender <(>&<)> protection mainstreaming. The intervention will adhere to Sphere <(>&<)> cluster standards, target 15,750 ppl, strengthen JR synergies, <(>&<)> remain relevant should displacement dynamics shift towards returns.
