General
30% Campaign During the fiscal years 2019-2020 and 2020 - 2021, the NGO AFSIEN (Association des Femmes du Secteur des Industries Extractives au Niger) in partnership with Oxfam CO implemented two initiatives that yielded conclusive results. The first focused on the civic engagement of women living near mining and oil extraction sites in Niger, resulting in the establishment and operation of three regional branch offices (Tillabéry, Diffa and Agadez); and the second intervention was an opportunity to build the capacities of civil society players and members of the regional offices set up, as well as to hold advocacy meetings with decision-makers and members of parliament, in order to get extractive companies to honor their obligations in terms of royaltypayments, and also to push the state to respect the effective and regular payment of retrocessions to the communes hosting the EIs. Regional campaign to mobilize at least 30% of retrocession royalties to strengthen and empower women's and youth structures. - Strengthen understanding of the mechanisms for distributing funds from the extractive sector; - Influence a gender-sensitive budgeting policy; - Influence political decision-makers at national and local levels to formalize the allocation of 30% of mining and oil royalties allocated to communes for the development of women's structures and girls' education in mining regions.
