Reduce morbidity and mortality (by improving food security and enabling access to EHA services) and improve protection measures forthe most vulnerable women, men, girls, and boys in the two major crises in the Horn of Africa (Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya), the central Sahel (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger), and the forgotten crisis in the Central African Republic.In recent years, humanitarian needs have continued to grow, peaking in 2020 when 168 million people worldwide needed humanitarian assistance. The Covid19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on global humanitarian needs. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance will reach 235 million by 2021, an increase of nearly 40 percent. In addition to the impact of Covid-19 on the health and economic situation of the most vulnerable, many conflicts are stillongoing, while the effects of climate change are forcing many people to leave their homes.Thisis particularly true for many Africancountries facing severe conflict and affected by natural disasters. Multi-sectoral humanitarian assistance in West, Central and East Africa aims to respond to some of the major humanitarian crises in the Sahel, CentralAfrican Republic and the Horn of Africa by providing life-saving assistance in key sectors such as water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), food security and protection. Activitiesin seven countries (Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Kenya,Mali, Niger, and Somalia) are expected to reach over 390,000 people over a 27-month period.The project will be coordinated at the regional level to ensure a holistic approach and smooth implementation at all stages of assistance. In addition, a flexible funding approach will be used for this project, which provides for the achievement of outcome-level objectives in all three countries. This flexibility will allow us to respond to unforeseen eventsin forced displacement or conflict scenarios.Subordinate tothe project objective, the project has set the following targets for individual sectors: - EHA: Target groups improved their access to safe water and sanitation facilities and adapted their hygiene behavior. - EFSVL: Target groups have improved access tofood and their livelihoods are strengthened. - Protection: The security of target groups is improved by strengthening self-protection capacities, improving access to information on available services, and integrating protection into all sectors of the response.
