Community Integrated Development Initiatives (CIDI) was founded in 1996 and registered in 1999 as a legal not-for-profit NGO with the Ministry of Internal Affairs under registration certificate No. INDR18685080NB. It was founded by Dr. Jjuuko Fulgensio with a team of experienced and competent professionals motivated by the dire need for concerted efforts to fight poverty in Uganda. The organization is governed by a top most governance body known as the General Assembly, which is made up of 24 members. Italso has an 8 member board of governors, who are responsible for directing policy within the organization. CIDI has over 65 staff, who are well qualified in their various areas of operation and competencies and also well equipped with the necessary toolsof operation. CIDI’s initial implementation was a ‘Water and Sanitation Project’ in Kampala Makindye Division in a slum called Kamwanyi. CIDI WASH activities later expanded to cover all the 5 divisions of Kampala. In the last three years,CIDI has supported over 300 young men and women(youth) with skills (vocational skills) which has been one of the avenues to help them overcome the challenge of unemployment. Besides, through the National Youth Advocacy Platform (NYAP) CIDI has tremendously facilitated 135,243 youths all over the country (using their regional structures) to put government and the respective duty bearers, to address issues affecting the youth and causing them remain into poverty and socially excluded. General
The Uganda programme leverages the Farmer Field School approach to implement the outcomes related to agroecology, land rights, climate resilience and adaptation, and gender justice. Using the FFS as the entry point, the implementing partners will leverage existing trainings such as the “Enabling Voices, Demanding Rights; A Guide to Gender Sensitive Investment in Agriculture”, Gender Actions Learning Systems (GALS), Disaster Risk Reductions (DRR), Climate Resilient Agro-Ecosystem Model (CRAEM). These interventions will be carried out through a trainer of training model where each FFS will select different focal point leaders to be trained and then facilitate within their respective communities. This creates an effective leadership pipeline for more rural women and youth to become advocates in their community on the issues that they are impacted by. It is intentional to start with all 60 FFS in the first year sothat community led leadership is supported throughout the entirety of the programme to address each of the intermediary outcomes asissues of land access, climate adaptation, and farmer managed seed systems impact all target districts. There will be a strong focus on outcomes 1 and 3 and some degree of attention to outcome 2. When it comes to making finance more available and accessible for climate actions, the program will map available finance for climate actions and highlights clearly the processes and criteria for accessing them. The program will also be deliberate in making sure that, FFS curriculum integrate the module on participatory budgeting process and support rural women and their communities in participating in the budget processes. It has also been recognised that all district local governments officials knowledgeable on climate finance accountability and tracking, and by strengthening capacity of the Local Governments, climate finance access and availability will be improved. The program will also address land conflicts. Uganda will use FFS as entry points to create peace and advocate for peaceful coexistence. The team would like to use seeds as a tool to create peace. Although the project will not be in the conflict hotspots, the FFS that will be established some miles away from the conflict hotspots will be used as proxies to demand for peace in Amuru and Adjumani, they will also implement peace activities in FFS that will be situated in the two districts. Key partners will be the Country Office have chosen to work with Eastern and Southern Small-scale Farmers Forum (ESAFF Uganda)and Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM Uganda). PELUM Uganda being a member-based organization will work with Community Integrated Development Initiative (CIDI). These are partners that have strong track records in the main outcome areasand have implemented the Sowing Diversity equals Harvesting Security (SD=HS) project (2019- 2023). For the Case of PELUM and CIDI, the latter will be responsible for all the FFS level activities in Teso Sub regions, in the districtsof Soroti, Amuria andKatakwi, and PELUM will be responsible for capacity building of CIDI and ESAFF Uganda on agroecology, and thenproviding technical backstopping, supporting linkages, national level institutionalization and establishment of the centers of excellence. ESAFF on the other hand, will be responsible for all FFS level activities in Apac, Amuru and Adjumani districts.
