General
In Zimbabwe, Community Technology Development Trust (CTDT) and the Oxfam Country Office were selected to become the “Knowledge Hub”for this program. CTDT and Oxfam will take the work on Farmer Field Schools to scale in two (Mudzi and Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe) of the five districts where the SDHS program was implemented. At least fifteen FFS from the SDHS programme will be consolidated in each of the two districts per year. These will act as learning and knowledge hubs where farmers’ especially women will be further trainedto develop their skills on agro-ecology, facilitation skills, participatory plant breeding (PPB, PVS, PVD), seed production and marketing. Women-led FFS will create platforms for sharing successful practices, lessons learnt and innovations and take these to scalewithin and outside their communities. These Farmer Field Schools will coalesce into networks to facilitate the scaling up of the work on commercialization of local food plants. The program plans to work with the Ministry of Agriculture’s Crop Breeding Institute, National Gene Bank and the Strategic Policy Planning and Business Development, among academic institutions in Zimbabwe, international research institutions such as ICRISAT and CIP and other partners. CTDT will also linkpartners to the International Treaty on PlantGenetic Resources for Food and Agriculture’s Benefit Sharing Fund cycle 5. In addition, CTDT will work with the Food and Nutrition Council, Ministry of Health (Nutrition Department), FAO and other like-mindedorganizations working on agro-ecology and climate resilient seed systems.
