Oxfam International was formed in 1995 by a group of independent non-governmental organizations. Their aim was to work together forgreater impact on the international stage to reduce poverty and injustice. The name "Oxfam" comes from the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, founded in Britain in 1942. The group campaigned for food supplies to be sent through an allied naval blockade to starving women and children in enemy-occupied Greece during the Second World War. As well as becoming a world leader in the delivery of emergency relief, Oxfam International implements long-term development programs in vulnerable communities. We are also part of a global movement, campaigning with others, for instance, to end unfair trade rules, demand better health and education services for all, and to combat climate change. Today, there are 19 member organizations of the Oxfam International confederation. They are based in: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Quebec, South Africa, Spain and the United States. The Oxfam International Secretariat is based in Oxford, UK. The Secretariat runs advocacy offices in Addis Ababa, Brussels, Geneva, New York and Washington DC.

General
Under the PVP Fair for All proposal, there is dedicated capacity to work on EU based advocacy. The EU Climate Justice Policy advisor will contribute to achieving in particular Pathway 3 and Pathway 4 of the overall proposal, by contributing to the policyand advocacy development and implementation of Oxfam’s work on climate justice. The position will lead on influencing EU targets and coordinate the work amongst European affiliates, as well as support countryoffices and regional platforms, focusing on twostrands of work: the quality of climate finance and a just transition, both with regard to the impact on countries, communities, marginalized groups and women in the Global South. This is done within a context of the European Green Deal, a flagship initiative of the current EuropeanCommission, which has set out ambition goals to make the EU climate neutral in 2050. However, theambition of the European Green Deal focuses predominantly on a green and just transition within Europe, whereas the direct and undeniable impact of the climate crisisand the EU’s excessive use of resources falls particularly hard on vulnerable and marginalized communities in low-and middle-incomecountries. The EGD should be implemented in a globalised and interdependent world, aspart of an approach that is rooted in climate justice, that addresses the profound inequality that drives the climate and the resource crisis, and that recognizes the leadership of women and young people indriving the truly just transition we need.In addition, the European Commission has developeda legislative proposal requiring businesses to carry out due diligence in relation to the potential human rights and environmental impacts of their operations and supply chains. Oxfam EU has been very active intheBrussels’ coalition to shape this proposal. The proposal has now gone to the European Parliament and Council for discussion. The eventual implementation of the proposal, when including the changes that Oxfam and our allies would like to see, is a significant opportunity to leveraging change in the EU and using this as a precedent for wider global change. All of this work will be part of the Oxfam International EU Advocacy Office which is based in Brussels,Belgium. The Oxfam EU team focuses on the EU institutions, primarily the European Commission, Council and Parliament, advocating for sustainable, inclusive, and accountable programming and policies, including on climate and just transitions. The team also acts asa service hub for the Oxfam Confederation, supporting country offices and partners to engage with the EU in Brussels and in countries (through EU Delegations), as well as coordinating efforts amongst European affiliates regarding European policies.
