Oxfam International was formed in 1995 by a group of independent non-governmental organizations. Their aim was to work together forgreater impact on the international stage to reduce poverty and injustice. The name "Oxfam" comes from the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, founded in Britain in 1942. The group campaigned for food supplies to be sent through an allied naval blockade to starving women and children in enemy-occupied Greece during the Second World War. As well as becoming a world leader in the delivery of emergency relief, Oxfam International implements long-term development programs in vulnerable communities. We are also part of a global movement, campaigning with others, for instance, to end unfair trade rules, demand better health and education services for all, and to combat climate change. Today, there are 19 member organizations of the Oxfam International confederation. They are based in: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Quebec, South Africa, Spain and the United States. The Oxfam International Secretariat is based in Oxford, UK. The Secretariat runs advocacy offices in Addis Ababa, Brussels, Geneva, New York and Washington DC.

General
Advocacy on Covid-19: We particularly see campaigning opportunities around the vaccine and treatment for all at the global level, and further influencing to pressure governments benefiting from debt relief to use the money saved to strengthen their healthcare systems to fight the pandemic (prevention and treatment). Vaccine and treatment for all The vaccine, once ready, will become the currency of life and death. This is the moment to ensure principles and plans are in place for the vaccine (once found) to be free and fairly distributed to everyone. There is a clear added value for Oxfam as there are hardly any other organizations who launched a campaign on this issue yet, and we have a good history of campaigning on access to medicine (though not recent). We are already engaged in ongoing lobby at both the national and global level; efforts that would be strengthened by public campaigning. People around the world see that a vaccine, free and fair for all is a matter of justice and would like to express their voice in this debate. This combined with work call to immediate suspension of debt payments and other financing mechanisms can help mobilise people in several countries and build a global movement to fight inequality.
