CHEPKITALE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE
Chepkitale Indigenous People Development Project (CIPD) was founded in 2000 and registered in 2003. CIPDP was founded from the needof the community to self-organise and supporting the collective pursuing the land rights of the Ogiek Community. All its programmesare fully community initiated and driven. What is unique about CIPDP is that its founders are community activists who inherited thestruggle of the community from past generations and are committed to inspire a new generation tokeep striving forthe vision set forth by their ancestors. CIPDPs programmes are centred around protecting the land rights of the Ogiek Community in Mt. Elgon, this include: awareness raising on all aspects of their land rights, policy influencing, providing legal aid to members of the community, promote community-led environmental conservation, and support the community to develop sustainable livelihoods. CIPDP works in Mt. Elgon region traversing the Kenyan Bungoma and Trans-Nzoia counties where there is presence of the Ogiek Community members. They haveestablished working relationships with communities especially hunter gatherer communities whom we work together on land and resource rights, and alliances with other like-minded national and international civil society organizations.
