IDEC - Instituto Brasileiro de Defe
IDEC, the Brazilian institute for consumer interests, was founded in 1987. It is a civic organisation without profit motives or political preferences, and independent of economic interests. Oxfam Novib has been supporting IDEC since 1998. Some of the results it has achieved in recent years are safer condoms for men, a ban on genetically manipulated foods, withdrawal from the market of more than 100 kinds of antibiotics, legal aid against excessive increases in health insurance premiums, and a substantialreduction of the costs of reconnecting water. Together with the Dutch Consumer Union Oxfam Novib has also supported an improvement of IDECs services to its members and the public. Since 2014, IDEC is the lead of the Brazilian coalition of the Fair Finance Guide. Main themes are thetransparancy of the Brazilian banks in international perspective, the integration of ESG criteria in bank policies and practices and the socio-environmental effects of bank credits to specific sectors like agro industry, mining and power generation. The BrazilianFFG gives specific attention to Consumer Protection and Financial Inclusion issues. The website of the Guia dos Bancos Responsáveisgive an annual update of the assessment of the sustainability of the banks' policies.

General
IDEC is a consumer organization in Brazil. Since 2014, IDEC is the lead of the Brazilian coalition of the Fair Finance Guide. Main themes are the transparency of the Brazilian banks in international perspective, the level of integration of ESG criteria in bank policies and practices and the socio-environmental effects of bank credits to specific sectors like agro industry, mining and power generation. The Brazilian FFG gives specific attention to Consumer Protection and Financial Inclusion issues. The research results will be published and used to inform the general public, and bank clients specifically, mainly through the website (Guia dos Bancos Responsáveis), as well as social and conventional media. IDEC, leading the Brazilian FFG, will also use the results to engage with the Brazilian banks and their association (FEBRABAN), as well as the Central Bank and other financial authorities. It will serve as input for trainings of bank staff on their responsibilities regarding consumer protection, as well as clients regarding financial literacy. The Brazilian FFG coalition works in close cooperation with other FFG coalitions.
