African Women and Youth Action for Development (AWYAD) is a Non-Government Organization (NGO) founded by Christians with a deep concern for vulnerable youth and women in Uganda, South Sudan, Kenya and Tanzania in the East African Region, living in abjectpoverty and whose voices cannot be heard. AWYAD was established 2010, by Christians with a passion to support vulnerable youth and women groups in various parts of the region, where 78% of youth are enslaved in the war of want, unintended self-torture, unproductiveness, crime, hunger and stress due to poverty as a result of joblessness and hopelessness. Over 70% of women in many rural communities live through untold suffering caused by horror of poverty associated with cultural and economic injustices such as discrimination and unpaid labour which is both on and off farm. During emergencies like sever famine and hunger and displacement, women and children suffer most from the consequences of the disaster. In order to overcome these challenges, AWYAD isdriven with a passion to work and advocate for change that eradicates the causes of poverty, discrimination and injustice striving to achieve equality, voice and empowerment. The organization targets vulnerable youth between the age of 15 <(>&<)> 30 years andvulnerable women including young single mothers, widows, women with HIV and disability with competitive skills and knowledge on agro business, promoting talent, innovation andentrepreneurship as well as nurturing and mentoring youth and women leaders withskills to influence, participate in decision makingfor the development of their families, their communities and nation.
