IFRAD was founded and registered in October 2009 as a non-profit organization, majorly out of passion of then promoters/Board members to respond to the early post conflict injustices in Northern Uganda. Initially based on relief and recovery principles, IFRAD conducted activities addressing major livelihood challenges such as i) community organizing, ii) training of Village Savings and Loans Associations ii) Non-formal vocational and skills trainings and iii) supplying of relief hand-outs, while mainstreaming issues of child protection, gender, and HIV/AIDS. Because of the dynamic (and fast changing) post conflict programming in Northern Uganda, the Board of Directors resolved to re-define the mission and focus of the organization to new development trends not only in Northern Uganda but to Uganda as a whole. In November 2014, the organization took on a development mindset as opposed to post conflict relief and recovery in a bid to contextualize and broaden IFRAD#s programming and impact beyond NorthernUganda and beyond post conflict programming. IFRAD is currently a nationally focused and aspiringly - a leading socio-economic development organization working with enterprising people and businesses to influence pro-development policies, organize communities for positive transformation and development in East Africa. We work with collectively over 3000 young men and women across the various engagements, 56% of whom are female. IFRAD employs a private-sector-led approach towards development through; i)grassroots private sector organizing, ii) influencing local government-based policy debates and advocacy, iii) enhancing of community assets through capacity building, as well as iv) facilitating a functional business ecosystem (through tripartite engagements with; government, financial institutions and more developed private sector). Since 2014, we have mainstreamed Gender and ICT as core elements to IFRAD#s programing as we build out into a professional and highly reputable organization.
