General
Project Description This project (Economic Empowerment and Resource Center Space in Daikundi Province, Afghanistan) is designed to provide a formal or informal space where women and girls can do business and generate income, socialize and re-build their social networks; enhance their knowledge and capacity that could lead them to leadership and economic empowerment. The name Safe-Space is given to this project because safe space is a formal or informal place where women and girls feel physically and emotionally safe. The term #safe,# in the present context, refers to the absence of trauma, excessive stress, violence (or fear of violence), or abuse . It is a space where women and girls, being the intended beneficiaries, feel comfortable and enjoy the freedom to express themselves without the fear of judgment or harm. The key objectives of a safe space are to provide an area where women and girls can Socialize and re-build their social networks; receive social support, acquire contextually relevant skills, access safe and non-stigmatizingmulti-sectorial GBV response services (psychosocial, legal, medical), receive information on issues relating to women#s rights, health, and services . These spaces may take different names such as women centers, womencommunity centers, or listening and counselingcenters, to name a few. The ultimate goal of this pilot project is to provide inclusive and empowering environment in forum of safe spaces for Afghan Women and Girls in Daikundi Province. The key objectives of this project is to provide an area where women and girls can: - Socialize and re-build their social networks; - Improve women#s and girls# economic leadership - Receive social support; - Obtain contextually relevant skills for doing business andrunning startups; - Receive information on issues relating to women#s rights, health, and services by access to resource center equipped with computers, internet and library as integral component. Outcome1: Increased women#s income through establishment of a women market and restaurant. Oxfam intends to build and establish a safe space in Daikundi#s women garden as inclusive and empowering environment. Oxfam previous works and assessments indicate that women and girls from Nili and surrounding districts will use this women garden mainly for two purposes. Local women can use the women#s gardenas a local market where they can create a source of income for themselves by selling home made products and establish small business shops such (coffee shop, handcrafts shop, small restaurant, fruit juice shop <(>&<)> etc.). secondly, it is a recreational place for the women and children and also for the surrounding districts to come for picnic and have an outing with their family. The women garden is the first recreational project especially focusing women as Daikundi is a rural province and previously there was no garden or park for women and children. Oxfam with its previous project together with its local partner made Improvements and contributed to Greenery establishment in women Garden by one of its project (Improvement Livelihoods of Poor and Vulnerable Households in Daikundi) in 2015. Thus, Oxfam now intends to build restaurant facility within this garden which can be used as space for running businessby mostvulnerable groups of women in Daikundi so they can generate income. Outcome 2: Enhanced female youth#s knowledge and capacity by providing them a resource center.: Two rooms within the constructed facilities of the women garden will be allocated for resources centers, these rooms will be equipped with facilities such furniture, computer, interned and a library where women and girl students can utilize it as knowledge hub to enhance their knowledge and do researches or raise self-awareness on different topics. This resource can also serve as a knowledge hub where women and girls with different professions can be connected to each other which provide them an opportunity to build women networks.
