Extending International NGO
TWN-Africa focuses on strategic development issues facing Africa in the age of globalization, especially from the perspectives of the vulnerable and marginalized. It also facilitates the organization and expression of African civil society at the supranational (regional, continental and global) levels on these issues. TWN-Africa#s programme of work for equitable policies and improvements in economic governance has been focused around the issues of: 1) Trade and Investment (especially the international trade and investment regime) and Finance 2) Regional Economic Integration 3) Gender and Economic policy 4) Mining and Development

Implementing International NGO
General
The decade long (2003-2014) commodity boom and increased mineral prices fuelled growth in mineral producing African countries with the continent experiencing its best decade of growth in more than 30 years. The bulk of the benefits of the growth however accrued to the TNCs which control the mining sector due to the generous investment terms they enjoy. On the other hand, inequalities increased in Africa#s mineral dependent economies. Also many African countries have become even more dependent on mineral exports thereby worsening the structural inequality they face in the international economy. An important aspect of the intensified dependence is the fact that they are even more entrenched at the bottom, low value end of global mineral value chains. Nigerand Mozambique are good examples of this phenomenon. Uganda on the other hand is good example of a country where there is a strong production of minerals for domestic use with strong possibilities for building linkages. This project will evaluate in Niger, Uganda and Mozambique what progress has been made by these countries in the building of mining linkages and diversification, and what the key lessons are, since the launch of the Africa Mining Vision (AMV) ten years ago.
