Bophana is the name of a young Khmer woman who was a prisoner at S21, a former high school in Phnom Penh turned into a prison by the Khmer Rouge. Bophana continued to write letters to her fiancé, breaking the Khmer Rouge#s interdiction of love and private life. She died in the prison at 25, after being tortured for more than five months. By adopting the name of Bophana, the Center is passing on the message of resistance, courage and dignity left for future generations by this woman through her letters and her heroic story. Bophana Center was launched, it was designated as the Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center. Co-founded by film director Rithy Panh, the Bophana Center collects film and sound materials related to Cambodia and gives the public free digital access to this unique heritage. The large quality database attracts a diverse and wide audience, including Cambodian youth, teachers, students, scholars, tourists, and journalists. These archives are also brought to life through conferences, debates, exhibitions, and workshops organizedby the Center. Bophana also trains young Cambodians in cinema, audiovisual creation and new media, inspiring meaningful productionsabout their own culture. A place of exchange and interaction, the Bophana Center also supports creation in all its forms by welcoming artists: we create the archives of tomorrow. - Goal, Vision, mission and value Vision: Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center-ARPAA strives to become a leading non-profit and non-governmental archive center in the country and region in terms of reviving memory of the country and fostering Cambodian culture through arts and multimedia. Goals: To accomplish the two missions, Bophana Center-ARPAA aims to do as the followings: 1. Revive memory through archive collecting and safeguarding 2. Provide the public free digital access this unique heritages 3. Train people in cinema and audiovisual creation, enabling them to find their own voice by respecting the Gender Equality 4. Produce a wide range of audiovisual works about Cambodia 5. Diffuse the audiovisual documents through social media, website, application, television, festival and cultural events. ssociation Pour La Recherche, La Production et L’Archivage De Documents Audiovisuals (Bophana Center) has proven their expertise and capacity in art and filming training and documentary follow their vision as audio visual, achieve voice and visual of oldmemory during France colony and Khmer Rouge. Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center has experienced for years in amplifying voices of the marginalized groups through its projects such as “One dollar project” which gives the way to the marginalized groups totalk about their life and raise up what they need. Recently, Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center has successfully implemented a project “Amplifying voices of indigenous women and discriminated groups through innovative multimedia” which is mainly supported by Oxfam Cambodia. The works done by Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center has been heard and encouraged by local authority, Ministries and policy makers. Bophana Center will design a communication strategy to promote the three projects through DigitalMedia Online and annual event. The objective of this communication strategy is to disseminate the communication materials through our communication channels to reach the general public as many as we could, especially the policy makers. Project management team will conduct weekly meeting with the projectteam members to reflect the works done previously and to set strategy to deal with issues occurring during the project implementation. Through the partnership between Oxfam and Bophana Center, this initiative project entitled, “Amplifying the significance of Social Protection for marginalized groups through innovative multimedia” is aiming to increase public awareness and support for policy influencing work for a broader coverage, inclusiveness and shock responsive of Social Protection for the most marginalized groups in Cambodia through multi-media and documentary films. This project is expected to promote public awareness to see the important role Social Protection framework for the most marginalize group in Cambodia by engage with media and journalist coverage. It’s also expected that multimedia coverage of concerns and evidence to influence the change through strengthening and expanding cooperation at national and international level. It’s expected to document the impactful and creative 5 short videos documentary and photo stories of change focusing on the diversity and inclusiveness of the most marginalized groups under the coverage of the national social protection in Cambodia. This 12 months project will captured the most impactful documentary film related to Social Protection and will be screened in the national and international festival, photo exhibition on stories of change will be organized and the national and social dialogue on SP are expected to be increased.
