DARD Ben Tre has a long relation with Oxfam from first phase (9/2009-3/2010) on "Managing climate risk through livelihood diversification". The 2nd phase (9/2010-3/2012) Building equitable resilience to the impacts of climate change and disasters in BenTre province, Vietnam" then has continued with this project until now. The purpose of the project is "Building resilience for poor people (especially women) and local authorities to disaster risks and climate change in coastal communities". The model of change that the project targets is to provide new practise, conduct tests, then advocate to apply them widely in different communities. Project Implementer is responsible for collaborating with Oxfam to carry out this project in order to achieve the project objectives/Coordinating the relevant parties involving in project implementation to ensure to achieve the project expected objectives, to ensure to target the right beneficiaries and to deliver the project outputs to the beneficiaries in a clear and transparent manner;/Facilitating to setup working mechanism, working functions for local institutions at Province, district and commune level who will participate in the project activities. "Ben Tre is considered to be heavily affected by the impacts of climate change such as sea level rise, salinization, landslide and flood in coastal areas.Oxfam#s recent researches have shown that local people have been and are suffering from these impacts. The province#s coastal communes are facing up with the shortage of clean water for production and living activities in dry season. Agriculture and aquaculture production are affected, plagues breaks out, cultivating productivity decreases, which lead to unstable incomes. Poor people, especially women, are usually unemployed in the community. National and Provincial specialized agents have warned that salinization will continue to rise, flood will happen more frequently and longer, there will be more unpredictable and extreme climatic phenomena. The adverse effects of these impacts hence will be more severe, putting more pressure on the response Project area: 15 communes of three coastal districts including Thua Duc, Thanh Trì, Dinh Trung and Dai Hoa Loc Communes of Binh Dai District; Thanh Hai, Thanh Phong, An Dien, An Thanh, An Nhon, and An Qui Communes of Thanh Phu District; Bao Thuan, Bao Thanh, Tan Xuan, An HoaTay and An Duc Communes of Ba Tri DistrictImplementation time: 5 years (4/2012 # 3/2017)Project budget: 3,922,650 USD (approximately 81.2 billion dong) sponsored by NZAID"
