The National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS) was set up by a group of traders in Lagos in October 1997. Its objective is toadvance trade beyond buying and selling, into a vehicle for development, human rights and economic justice. NANTS is the national umbrella for traders and small and medium enterprise, but it also encourages its members to improve the link between production and distribution. Its membership has recently expanded to include local manufacturers and small farmers, and stood at 235 individuals, 45corporate members and 32 market and trade associations in July 2007. NANTS is one of the 10 contributing CSO partners in the GENVAD progamme funded by IFAD for the period November 2011-December 2013. Other CSO partners are ACORD, BAIR and Duhamic Adri (Rwanda), FADU (Nigeria), CEFORD, CREAM, ESAFF, PELUM and VEDCO (Uganda).
