This project has 4 components each wielding sustainability after its completion. First is to secure year-round availability of water by renovating a micro-dam in Halhale sub-zoba of the Debub Region. This small dam has been playing a significant role in improving the water table level of the wells around the area and securing year-round availability of water for research projects including horticulture, agronomy and livestock (forage). The project also aims to support a nursery which has been preparing over half a million seedlings in Bet Ghergish Seedling centre. The water supply system has been having challenges. The submersible pump has been out of use and needs urgent attention. The third component of the project is to support the Dairy production and research centre at Halhale, Zoba Debub. The procurement of concentrate feed for 6 months and the procurement of irrigation materials for forage production will improve milk production. Training in tissue culture research for is the fourth component of the project. Relatively this area of research is at its infant stage. With the existing facilities and staff, the research unit is producing some clean and healthy planting materials such as potatoes, bananas, and date palms.
