Ce projet vise à construire des systèmes alimentaires résilients et à autonomiser les communautés au Burkina Faso, au Tchad, au Mali, en Mauritanie et au Niger. Le Programme alimentaire mondial des Nations Unies met en œuvre ce projet pour répondre aux défis interconnectés du changement climatique et de la dégradation de l'environnement, de l'insécurité alimentaire et de l'instabilité socio-économique. Il travaille à renforcer les communautés contre les changements climatiques et à améliorer leur capacité à gérer les chocs de manière autonome, réduisant ainsi le besoin d'assistance humanitaire. Le Programme intégré de résilience au Sahel cherche à atteindre plus de 5 millions de personnes (dont 50,8 % de femmes) dans 4 500 villages et à réhabiliter 420 000 hectares de terres d'ici 2028. Le projet se concentre sur les zones les plus vulnérables aux chocs climatiques et à l'insécurité alimentaire. Il réhabilite les terres dégradées, améliore la productivité agropastorale et connecte les petits exploitants agricoles aux marchés locaux. Le projet aborde également la malnutrition, promeut les cultures résilientes au climat et soutient les systèmes alimentaires locaux. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) créer des actifs et soutenir les marchés des petits exploitants; 2) intégrer la nutrition; 3) intégrer les interventions basées sur les écoles.
This project aims to builds resilient food systems and empowers communities in Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger. The United Nations World Food Program implements this project to address the interconnected challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, food insecurity, and socio-economic instability. It works to strengthen communities against climate change and improve their ability to manage shocks independently, reducing the need for humanitarian assistance. The Sahel Integrated Resilience Programme seeks to reach over 5 million people (50.8% women) in 4,500 villages and rehabilitate 420,000 hectares of land by 2028. The project focuses on areas most vulnerable to climate shocks and food insecurity. It rehabilitates degraded land, improves agropastoral productivity, and connects smallholder farmers to local markets. The project also addresses malnutrition, promotes climate-resilient crops, and supports local food systems. Project activities include: (1) creating asset and supporting smallholder market; (2) integrating nutrition; and (3) integrating school-based package interventions.

Les résultats attendus de ce projet incluent : 1) la fourniture de transferts conditionnels en espèces ou en nourriture pour répondre aux besoins alimentaires et nutritionnels immédiats, en se concentrant sur la conservation des sols et de l'eau pour restaurer les écosystèmes, augmenter la productivité agro-pastorale et réduire la vulnérabilité climatique; 2) la collaboration avec le Fonds des Nations Unies pour l'enfance, l'Organisation mondiale de la santé et l'Organisation des Nations Unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture. Ce, pour promouvoir les cultures résilientes au climat, augmenter l'autoproduction, assurer la disponibilité de nourriture nutritive tout au long de l'année, optimiser la transformation et le stockage des aliments, et améliorer l'approvisionnement des détaillants; 3) l'amélioration de l'accès des enfants à l'éducation, à la santé et à la nutrition, l'amélioration des résultats d'apprentissage, et la fourniture d'un filet de sécurité pour les familles grâce à un programme de cantine scolaire.
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) provided conditional cash or food transfers to address immediate food and nutrition needs, focusing on soil and water conservation to restore ecosystems, boost agro-pastoral productivity, and reduce climate vulnerability; (2) collaborated with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, the World Health Organization, and the Food and Agriculture Organization. This helped to promote climate-resilient crops, increase self-production, ensure year-round availability of nutritious foods, optimize food processing and storage, and enhance supply to retailers; and (3) improved children's access to education, health, and nutrition, enhance learning outcomes, and provide a safety net for families through a school feeding program.
