This project is part of Global Affairs Canada’s International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy. The IYIP is designed to offer Canadian post-secondary graduates the opportunity to gain professional experience in international development. The Fisheries and Marine Institute of the Memorial University of Newfoundland provides international internships to 100 interns in five countries. Through this program, youth interns apply their skills and knowledge to address international development issues such as environmental sustainability, adaptation to climate change and youth education, and improving outcomes for women and adolescent girls. Specific activities include: assessing the impact of community activities on climate change, promoting marine education and conservation, enhancing coastal community development and sustainable aquaculture, and creating/building partnerships with local governments and environmental groups.
