Donors are expected to align on country priorities, harmonise their procedures as far as possible, mobilise resources and make them predictable as well as insure capacity development. Supporting the FTI is fully in line with the Südbotschaft which gives a central place to the MDGs and to Education. Basic education (formal and non formal) is stated in the same Message as a priority area in the West Africa region. The same regional focus also prevails in the FTI. Indeed, the majority of FTI funds are given to African countries and all countries where SDC works in West Africa (and which have education programmes) are FTI countries. However, other countries where SDC is active in education/training are part (Albania) or will be part (Bangladesh) of the FTI. Participating in the FTI will be an excellent opportunity for SDC to be more present in the education policy dialogue at the national level though a stronger involvement of the cooperation offices.
