Family farms face the problem of land fragmentation due to population pressure on natural resources which often leads to conflicts between stakeholders and users (farmers and ranchers). This pressure of ever increasing natural resource make the right to land denied to certain professional categories of the society especially women. Yet, in Niger, the right to land for women is recognized both by the legislation (Rural Code) and by Muslimreligion. But because of certain social prejudices, communities still refuse to recognize it. Niger is a country with large Muslim predominance. Thus tenure insecurity is an ongoing concerns that rural women living in Niger. They are most often in a very precarious position in terms of their access to and control of land, recognized yet vital for their development. Addressed to this problem, Oxfam decided to support the initiative of the Women's Network for Peace (REFEPA) through project Women's access to land in Niger. The project aims to strengthen and secure women's access to agricultural land and ability to exploit it. Given the results achieved during the first phase (performed between October 2010 and February 2013), Oxfam has decided to support this partner again by agreeing to finance a second phase, which started in March 2013 for two more years. For the implementation of project activities, Oxfam andREFEPA highlighted the partnership and collaboration within a framework of promoting an ongoing dialogue between actors capable of bringing the various stakeholders. The project was based on Islamic law to conduct its advocacy that helped convince beneficiary communities that woman as much as man, has a property right in the land.In addition to the partner, the project works with villagers community leaders.\n\nThe project has develop a strategy to establish that according to the national law, human rights exist for women in the different systems governing land Niger (modern, Islamic and customary), but this is the result of an automatic applicability of these rights.
